ARAKAWA Toyozou(1895-1985) is a legendary Mino potter who was designated as a Living National Treasure for his Shino and Black Seto wares. This museum is devoted to him and features Toyozou's works as well as pieces of old Shino ware found in the Kukuri area. Shino ware was originally thought to have been fired in the Seto region. However, a Shino shard was discovered by Toyozou in the Mino Kukuri region in 1930; this proved to be it an important discovery. Toyozou proved that Shino ware was originally fired in the Kukuri region and not in the Seto region. Toyozou built a kiln in Kukuri and produced classical Mino wares that are held in the highest esteem in the Japanese pottery world.. The collection is changed four times a year.
