The IDEMITSU Museum of Art was founded in 1966 to exhibit the private collection of IDEMITSU Sazou, founder of IDEMITSU company. It has one of the best collections of ancient oriental ceramics in Japan in terms of quantity and quality and includes various masterpieces. The remarkable collection features jars made in Jingdezhen, China, and ceramics from Vietnam, Thailand, England, and Holland. Japan is represented by the work of NINSEI, and various wares from Karatsu, Ko-Kutani, Ko-Imari, as well as Kakiemon. A very noteworthy museum.

HATAKEYAMA Memorial Museum of Art 2-20-12, Shiroganedai, Minato-ku, Tokyo 03-3447-5787
The Hatakeyama Memorial Museum of Art was founded by HATAKEYAMA Kazukiyo, founder of EBARA Industrial company, to celebrate the anniversary of his 80th birthday. The private collection includes valuable tea utensils, such as Shino-yaki fresh water jars, Iga-yaki vases, as well as porcelain, lacquer ware, and paintings. Thirty-three works in the museum have been designated as Cultural Properties. There are tea houses as well a tea garden where one can appreciate the precious works in a tranquil atmosphere.

The collection of GOTOH Keita, founder of the Tokyu Corporation, is exhibited. His private collection includes pre-modern Japanese art, Chinese and Korean art, such as ink paintings, picture scrolls, and pottery. The exhibits are shown on a rotation schedule with special exhibitions held regularly.

The SUNTORY MUSEUM OF ART was founded by Suntory corporation at Marunouchi bldg. in 1961, then it was moved to the present location of Moto Akasaka. The collection includes the ancient Japanese arts and crafts in everyday life, such as lacquer ware, pottery and porcelain, weaving and dyeing, glass works as well as paintings are housed. There is a tea room which is available as a rent space for public. The sky view of Tokyo from the 11th floor where the Museum is located is also worth to see. Special events by theme are held seven to nine times a year.

THE SEIKADO BUNKO ART MUSEUM 2-23-1 Okamoto, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, 157-0076 03-3700-0007
The Seikado Library was founded by Yanosuke Iwasaki(1851-1908) in 1892 and the museum was established to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the library's founding. The Seikado's collection includes 5,000 art objects, including seven National Treasures and 82 Important Cultural Properties, as well as the library's 200,000 volumes. The Seikado Bunko Art Museum displays its vast collection in special theme exhibitions held regularly.

The Sogetsu Art Museum 7-2-21 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo, 107-8505 03-3408-9112
Sogetsu-ryu is one of Japan's traditional flower arrangement schools. The museum displays ancient arts and crafts as well as modern and contemporary art. Interesting pottery vessels are used for many of Sogetsu style flower arrangements. Plays and musical concerts are also regularly held at the Sogetsu theater located in the same building.

The National Museum of Modern Art and Claft, Tokyo 1 Kitanomarukoen, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 102-0091 03-3211-7781
Founded in 1977, this is the first National Art and Claft Museum in Japan. The buiding was originally built in Meiji period, then renovated into the museum. It houses Japanese modern art and claft, such as pottery and porcelain, lacquer, dyeing, weaving, metal works. Nortable collection among them is 'Enamel octagonal shaped plate with a fern pattern' by precious modern ceramist TOMIMOTO Kenkichi, is well known.

The Japan Folk Crafts Museum, or Mingeikan, was founded in 1936 by Soetsu Yanagi. The museum focuses on folk art, paintings, sculpture, dyeing, weaving, lacquer ware, wood carving, pottery and porcelain, and leather crafts of various regions of Japan are exhibited. The old wooden building is also worthy of note. Special exhibitions are held regularly .

In 1940, NEZU Kaichiro Sr. founded the Nezu Institute and it opened the following year. At present, the museum collection numbers more than seven thousand items, seven of which are designated as National Treasures. Eighty pieces have been labeled Important Cultural Properties and one hundred as Important Art Objects Pottery masterpieces include an Amamori-katade tea bowl from the Yi Dynasty and a Shino mizusashi (fresh water jar) with reed designs from the Momoyama period..

The Toguri Museum of Art was founded in 1987 and exhibits the private collection of TOGURI Tei, a well-known businessman. TOGURI collected masterpieces of Imari, Kakiemon, Nabeshima, as well as ancient ceramics from China and Korea. Especially, the collection of Imari and Nabeshima is one of the best in the world in quantity and its quality. The collection is shown by theme and is changed four times a year.

The Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan was founded in 1993 at the site of Imperial Palace, in order to preserve and exhibit the collection by Showa Emperor. The collection is over 6,700 pieces, which includes valuable ancient brush paintings, art and craft, as well as these related literature are mainly exhibited. Special events are held regularly.

The Tokyo Fuji Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1983, and exhibits the modern art from the world. The collection includes valuable sculptures by Rodin, as well as Japanese paintings, lacquer ware, swords, from the Heian to the modern age, Ukiyo-e by KATSUSHIKA Hokusai and UTAMARO. Especially the oriental ceramics, such as ancient Chinese pottery and porcelain are worth to see. Some them are designated as the Important Cultural Properties among more than 5,000 pieces collection. The collection is shown by theme and the special event is held regularly.

The Matsuoka Museum was founded in 1975 to exhibit the private collection of MATSUOKA Kiyojiro, a successful business man. The Hachiro Yuasa Memorial Museum was established in 1982 for the anniversary the 25th years foundation of International Christian University. The collection includes more than 7,000 pieces, such as pottery and porcelain, weaving, wood works, metal works and various arts and crafts works are exhibited. The ancient works and its related archaeological literature that were found at the ruins in the campus are also on display.
