The museum houses a collection of many aspects of Aomori including displays devoted to archaeology, history, folk art, nature, industry, and culture. Artifacts from the Jomon to Yayoi periods are especially worthy of attention. Also, interesting exhibits include Aomori literature, animals, and apple production. Aomori prefecture is well known as an apple producing region.

HACHINOHE HISTORICAL MUSEUM 35-1 Nejohigashigamae, Hachinohe-city, Aomori Pref., 039-1166 0178-44-8111
The museum is located at the ruins of Ne Castle which was built in the middle of the fourteenth century by feudal lord Nanbu Nejou. Collections of ancient writings, armors, literature related to Nanbu Nejou family, as well as historical works which were found at the ruins of Jomon period are on display. In addition, tools of regional agriculture and fishery, folk art and literature of the regional parade festival 'Sanja Taisai' are also exhibited.

This museum was established in 1994. The collection includes more than 5000 of archaeological works of Jomon period, 633 pieces among them are designated as the important cultural treasures. Wood works, lacquer ware as well as a bow are on display.

Itayanagi Folk Art Museum was established in 1973. The collection includes Jomon earthenware, stoneware, agricultural equipment and literature related folk art and history are on display.

Jomon-Kan was established in 1979. The collection includes various historical works of Jomon period, such as jars, plates, clay figures of earthenware and stoneware which were found at the ruins of Kameoka are on display.

Morita historical Folk Art Museum was established in 1976. The collection includes various Jomon earthenware, archaeological literature as well as local farming equipment are mainly exhibited. 219 pieces among the collection have been designated as the Important Cultural Properties.
