Kakunodate-machi is well known as the 'small Kyoto' of the Tohoku region. There are many old Japanese style houses in which Samurai families used to live. Many historical buildings in the area have been designated as Important Cultural Properties. The museum's architecture blends a modern western design with traditional building materials of the region to create a pleasing harmony with the ancient town landscape. Collections of traditional arts and crafts of the region as well as Shiroiwa-yaki are mainly exhibited.

Kazuno Cultural Property Preservation Center 13 Manza, Towada Oyu Aza, Kazuno-city, Akita Pref., 018-5421 0186-37-3822
Kazuno Cultural Property Preservation Center was established in 1995. The collection includes various Jomon earthenware which was found at the local ruins and archaeological literature are mainly on display.
